PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending much of his rookie season racing at Ocean Speedway in 2016, Lucas Ashe continues to travel more in 2017. Over the Memorial Day Weekend, Ashe made his first trip to the Pacific Northwest to take part in the Marvin Smith Memorial at Cottage Grove Speedway and came home with a 15th place finish.

“It is a fun little place, and I was really happy with how our weekend went,” Ashe said. “I am getting better with feedback I feel, and my guys are doing what they can to give me a really good car.”

The two-night program went green on Saturday night, and in his first competitive laps on the Cottage Grove Speedway, the Cottonwood, CA driver timed the SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil/NAAKE Suspension backed sprinter in 13th fastest with 40-cars checked into the pit area.

Finishing fifth during his heat race, Ashe would have to take a trip to the ‘B’ Main, which wasn’t all bad as it would give him more laps on the unfamiliar surroundings. Running in the second spot, Ashe would make a bid at the lead in the semi, but a car would lose the handle in front of him and the damage would end his night.

Unbothered by the way Saturday night ended, Ashe and company came back Sunday night looking to better themselves. Timing in 19th quickest during time trials, Ashe would go on to finish third during his heat race and lock himself directly into the 41-lap Marvin Smith Memorial feature event.

Gridding the field from the 15th starting spot, Ashe would move around the slick surface as he ran between 13-15th all race long. With two fast grooves offered to the field, Ashe would get more comfortable as the race moved along as he finished his weekend off with a 15th place finish.

“Getting to these places is making me better as a driver,” Ashe said. “Sunday it was really slick, but there was two really fast grooves out there, and I had some fun using them both and turning it some good laps.”

Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, NAAKE Suspension, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, DMI Components, Shaver Racing Engines, Maxim, Rod End Supply, Lucky Seven Outlaw Wings, Fat Cat Propane, Pickern Allstate Ins., Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 11, Wins-0, Top-5’s-0, Top-10’s-2

ON TAP: Ashe will get back to action in California this weekend as he is scheduled to compete at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
