PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending last week getting a new car together, Lucas Ashe and his Lucas Ashe Racing team made the last minute decision to head to Cottage Grove, OR over the weekend and take part in the Marvin Smith Memorial where Ashe would finish fourth in the 41-lap feature Sunday night.
“Saturday night we had some power steering issues that pretty much only let us run a heat race, but on Sunday night we were extremely fast all night long,” Lucas Ashe said. “We had some great help all weekend long, and a lot of help to even get the car done and make the weekend possible.”
After fighting issues Saturday night, Ashe and company came out very strong on Sunday night as Ashe earned quick time honors aboard the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 machine.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Cottonwood, CA driver would turn in a very strong performance that saw him race his way up to second. Chasing down the leader, Ashe would seemingly get faster as the heat went on but a second place finish still put him in both the feature event and the Dash.
A fourth place finish in the Dash put Ashe in the second row for the 41-lap Marvin Smith Memorial feature event. Getting involved in an early wreck, Ashe would be forced to the back of the pack where he would restart from the 22nd position.
Continuing to show the same great speed he showed early in the night, Ashe was able to navigate his way through dense traffic on the ¼ mile bullring. Able to avoid a couple of incidents in front of him Ashe looked very strong late in the race as he worked his way forward.
Going toe-to-toe with Oregon’s best, Ashe would close out his weekend with an impressive run from the tail of the field to finish 4th.
“We had an extremely fast racecar on Sunday night, and it was a lot of fun to drive,” Ashe said. “It has been a different experience the last couple of weeks and to see some positive results makes it all worth it.”
Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, Triple X Race Co., DMI Components, VSR, Factory QRC, Shaver Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, Fat Cat Propane, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 13, Wins-0, Top-5’s-2, Top-10’s-5
ON TAP: Ashe is scheduled to return to the Pacific Northwest this weekend as he will be in action at Gary’s Harbor Raceway on Saturday night.
