PETERSEN MEDIA: 2017 continues to be a season of firsts for Lucas Ashe. After making his first career start at Marysville Raceway two-weeks ago, Ashe made his first ever appearance at Silver Dollar Speedway over the weekend and adapted well.

“I was really happy with how things went for the most part in Chico, CA,” Lucas Ashe said. “We had really good speed both nights, and we were able to move forward.”

Friday night marked the Cottonwood, CA driver’s first ever appearance at Silver Dollar Speedway, and in his first competitive laps on the ¼ mile he would time in 14th fastest during time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Ashe would hold his own against a pair of Silver Dollar Speedway sharpshooters in Shane Golobic and Mason Moore. Falling back to the third spot, Ashe would still transfer into the feature event.

Finding himself in the seventh row for the feature event, Ashe would go to work aboard the SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil/NAAKE Suspension entry on what was an extremely fast racing surface.

Though it was tough to pass, Ashe was able to make up some ground as he closed his night out with a 10th place finish.

Returning to the speedway on Saturday night with the Civil War Series during the final night of the Silver Cup, Ashe would go out line during time trials and end up timing in 20th fastest.

With the racing groove still narrow during heat races, Ashe would line up fifth and finish there forcing him into the 12-lap B main. Finishing third in the semi, Ashe would move the STL Tile/Crown Motors/Logo USA machine into the 30-lap Silver Cup feature event.

The feature event would offer up a tricky track to the field as ruts had developed in turns one and two, making for a wild night of bicycles and wheelies during the race.

From his 19th starting spot, Ashe continued to acclimate himself well to Silver Dollar Speedway as he was able to work his way forward during the wild feature event.

Taking advantage of a couple of early restarts, Ashe would fight his way forward inside the Top-10 late in the feature event. On the 20th lap, trouble would arise for Ashe who would make contact with another car while slowing for a caution and ultimately get his car over.

Though a soft landing, Ashe’s night would come to an end.

“It was a tough way to end our weekend, but definitely have some things to look forward to this year,” Ashe added. “I have to thank everyone who makes this possible, and Harley Van Dyke and the guys for giving me a fast racecar and continuing to get me comfortable.”

Ashe is also currently in another battle. As a finalist in Champion’s Search For A Champion, he needs your vote daily to land a sponsorship. Please click over to http://sfac.championautoparts.com and do so.
