PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his return to the track where he kicked off his racing career on Friday night, Ocean Speedway, Lucas Ashe would have a good night overall that saw him come home with a seventh place finish.
“It was a good first night of making my own calls on my car,” Lucas Ashe said. “I really think it was the most I have learned in one night so that is a good feeling. I have some learning to do on shocks, but I am really excited for the rest of the season.”
Ashe made the trip to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA to take on the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo. Timing the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 entry in eighth quickest in time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Cottonwood, CA driver would pick up the win, which would be important to his night, as it would put him in the six-lap dash.
Running third in the Dash behind Brad Furr and Jake Haulot, Ashe would find himself in the second row for the 30-lap feature event. When the race came to life, Ashe would jump into second as he chased after early leader, Brad Furr.
Running in the second position for the first handful of laps, Ashe would make a slight mistake on a lap four restart and would fall back to the fourth position. Able to work his way back up into third, the youngster would lose the handle on the 10th lap and bring his machine to a stop.
Able to restart, Ashe would make up a little bit of his lost ground as he was able to come home with a seventh place finish.
“It was a good start to the night, but we could have been better in the feature,” Ashe said. “It is definitely going to be a new challenge doing this on our own, but it is a challenge I am looking forward to.”
Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, Triple X Race Co., DMI Components, VSR, Factory QRC, Shaver Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, Fat Cat Propane, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.
