PETERSEN MEDIA- Having an extremely successful Summer competing for a few different car owners in the Midwest, Carson Macedo returned to the seat of the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21x machine over the last week and scored a seventh place finish with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series during the Gold Cup Race of Champions in Chico, CA.
“It was great to get home and race with my family, and everyone associated with the Tarlton’s,” Carson Macedo said. “When it was all said and done we ended up with a good finish against some extreme stiff competition, so it was a good week.”
Macedo would kick things off on Wednesday night when he battled with the Civil War Series during their season finale. With 44 cars on hand, Macedo timed the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./ Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino mount in ninth quickest in time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Macedo would battle with Andy Forsberg for the top spot, but would settle for second and lock into the 30-lap feature event.
Taking the green flag from the 12th starting position, the race would rip off laps in rapid fire fashion until the first caution flew on the 18th circuit.
Using a couple of restarts to his advantage, the Lemoore, CA native would get up to the sixth spot late in the race but on the 24th lap he would get up over the groove in turn four and bring out the caution. Getting back as much as he could in the final six laps, Macedo would finish in the 12th spot.
“We had really good speed, which was good to start out the week,” Macedo said. “I made a mistake late and it cost us big time.”
Friday night Macedo would again be at the helm of the potent Tarlton Motorsports machine this time he battled with the World of Outlaws. Timing in 12th quickest in his qualifying flight, Macedo would have his work cut out for him.
Lining up seventh in his heat, Macedo would pick up a position but the sixth place finish would force him into what was an extremely loaded Last Chance Qualifier.
Taking the green flag from the 10th starting spot, Macedo would battle with the likes of Brent Marks, Austen Wheatley, and Logan Schuchart as he chased after a transfer spot. A late double file restart would mix things but the former King of the West champ would finish eighth and end his night.
“I never was able to get going on Friday, and we ended up not making the show which was really disappointing,” Macedo noted. “This team continued to work hard, and we came back strong Saturday night.”
The 64th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions finale would prove to be interesting for all 40 drivers in the field, but Macedo took care of business as he timed in third quickest in his qualifying flight before finishing second in his heat and qualifying for the Dash.
An eighth place finish in the six-lap shootout lined the Tarlton Motorsports machine up in the fourth row for the 40-lap feature event.
On the extremely fast Silver Dollar Speedway, not a lot of passing would be seen during the 40-lap affair. Mixing it up with some of the best in the Top-10, Macedo would end his Gold Cup with a seventh place finish.
“It is great to get another good finish with the World of Outlaws with the Tarlton’s,” Macedo added. “I have to thank everyone who makes this possible, and always gives me a fast car when I am fortunate enough to drive it.”
Tarlton Racing would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2017 season.
