Macedo Sweeps Inugural Tom Tarlton Classic at Keller Auto Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- A break in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series schedule allowed Carson Macedo to return to his native California and climb back aboard the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 for the inaugural Tom Tarlton Classic on Friday night. The trip would be worth it for the newly named pilot of the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 car as he swept the event winning both the Sprint Car and Midget feature events.

“This past weekend was unreal,” Carson Macedo said. “To sweep the inaugural Tom Tarlton Classic was pretty special. To do it in the Tarlton’s Midget and Sprint Car made it that much more meaningful.”

Making a rare appearance back in California, Macedo would be ‘on kill’ from the start of the night as he would earn quick time honors in the Midget and would time in third fastest aboard the Tarlton and Son, Inc. Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed Sprint Car.

Turning in a very strong performance in his Midget heat race, the Lemoore, CA driver would come from his third row starting spot to pick up the win and transfer into the all-important Dash. Lining up sixth in the Dash, Macedo would continue put the field on notice as he would again come forward and pick up the win.

In preliminary action aboard the Sprint Car, Macedo would finish third in his heat race which was good enough to put him into the Dash. Pulling the pill for the 410ci Dash, he would leave no doubt as he also picked up the win in that race and successfully put both cars on the pole of each feature event.

On a very fast racing surface in the midget feature event, Macedo would jump out to the early lead, though would feel some pressure from Ryan Bernal. Able to keep his machine up front, Macedo would soon break away from Bernal and begin to open up a sizeable gap.

Showing no signs of rust aboard a midget for the first time since his trip to Australia the previous winter, Macedo was dominant en-route to his win.

Shifting gears and hopping into the Sprint Car where he would again lead the field to green, Macedo would continue to flex his muscle as he left the likes of Brad Sweet, Dominic Scelzi, and Kyle Larson in his wake early in the 30-lapper.

As the track continued to slick off, and traffic came into play, Macedo would soon feel pressure from his current car owner, Kyle Larson. As they raced in traffic, Larson would close in on the leader, but a yellow flag would waive with just 10-laps to go giving the leaders clear track.

Macedo would nail the ensuring restart as he left Larson and Sweet in his wake. Continuing to set a torrid pace, he would admit that he felt pressure form Larson during the final couple of laps, but on this night he would not be denied as he picked up the win during the $21,000-to-win feature event, and capped off a sweep during the inaugural event.

“I just can’t say enough how thankful I am for everything the Tarlton’s continue to do in supporting me and my career,” Macedo said. “What can you say about Paul Baines? He did an incredible job this weekend, and for us to not work together all year and have a night like we had is pretty amazing. Again, a great night, and a big thank you to everyone who made it possible.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2020 season.
