PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night Cole Macedo made his first ever start at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA memorable as he picked up a fifth place finish with the Civil War Series and took over the early season points lead.
“I think our weekend went very well,” Cole Macedo said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect during my first start at the Thunderbowl, but it went well and we held our own against some stout competition.”
The Lemoore, CA driver opened Saturday night up by timing the potent Elite Landscape Construciton/Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Tarlton and Son, Inc. backed No. 21x machine in sixth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Macedo would race with Kyle Hirst for the top spot only to see the high flyer get the best of him and put him in second. Hanging on to finish second, Macedo would earn a berth in the nightly Dash where a second place finish put him on the front row of the 30-lap feature event.
When the race came to life, Macedo found himself racing with the likes of Shane Golobic, Bud Kaeding, and Kyle Hirst. With the three veterans able to get around him in the opening laps, Macedo would hang on to fourth as he would feel pressure from DJ Netto.
Able to keep Netto at bay for several laps, Macedo would eventually give up the spot as he ran in fifth. Making some great laps during his first ever appearance at the intimidating track, Macedo would take the checkered flag in fifth, and take over the series points lead.
“I have to thank my Dad and Paul Baines for giving me a car that I felt extremely comfortable in,” Macedo said. “I also have to thank Tom and Tommy Tarlton for this great opportunity. We have two races coming up this weekend that I am excited about then we make another trip to Tulare on May 5th that I am looking forward to.”
