PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking to the Jackson Motorplex for the Jackson Nationals, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team had a great weekend that saw the team score their eighth win of the year and finish in the Top-4 during the other three feature events he took part in.
“We had a great weekend,” Ian Madsen said. “We had a great race with Kerry (Madsen) on Friday night during the 360ci prelim and were able to get the win, and we battled with him again on Sunday night during the 410ci finale, but he got the best of us on that night.”
Lining up on the front row of the feature event on Friday night, Madsen would get off to a great jump aboard the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Team Kline Electric no. 18 machine as he opened up a very comfortable lead in the early goings.
After a mid race restart, Madsen would soon feel pressure from a familiar face in his older brother, Kerry. With the duo battling hard up front, Ian would fend off the challenge as he raced his way to the win and locked into the Sunday night feature event.
Saturday night saw the 410’s take over the speedway and Madsen would time his machine in fourth fastest before charging from sixth to third during his heat race.
Lining up in the second row of the feature event, Madsen would be it the mix during the duration of the feature event as he would battle with Brian Brown, and Danny Lasoski much of the night.
When the checkered flag waived on the preliminary night feature, Madsen would finish in the fourth spot and also lock into the Sunday night 410ci feature event.
Finishing third in the 410ci pole shuffle, Madsen would grid the field from the second row for the 25-lap feature event. Getting into the second spot when the action came to life, Madsen would make a move to take command of the feature event on the ninth lap.
Out front, Madsen was able to set a nice pace while the field battled for position behind him.
On the 20th lap, he would feel pressure from older brother Kerry once again, but this time he was able to get around Ian, and place him in the second spot. A trio of caution flags made the last few laps interesting between the Madsen brothers, but on this night Ian would settle for second.
In 360 action, Madsen would line up on the front row of the feature event and get the jump as the race went green. Leading the way despite a number of caution flag periods, Madsen would feel pressure from Aaron Reutzel with just a few laps left in the 25-lap feature.
On the 23rd lap, Madsen would see Reutzel rocket around the top of the track to take the lead, and put Madsen back in the second spot. Unable to get back by Reutzel in the final two laps, Madsen would cap his weekend off with a runner up finish.
“We were in the mix each time we hit the track, and were really strong all weekend,” Madsen added. “Thanks to my guys and this team for everything they do for me, and for giving me a great car.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Team Kline Electric, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, TammyHeckart.com, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc., Speck USA, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Lucas Oil, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
