PETERSEN MEDIA- Following the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season opening event in Florida, Kerry Madsen made the trip to Western Australia to pilot the new look A1 Keneric Racing entry during the World Series Sprint Cars season finale, and after enduring a violent flip on Friday night, Madsen would rebound to score a Top-10 in the series’ final event of the season.
“It was not the weekend we were hoping for in what was our final weekend of action in Australia for the year,” Madsen said. “We were in a wild crash on Friday, and went to a backup car and had a pretty good night on Saturday night.”
Kicking the weekend off at the Perth Motorplex on Friday, Madsen timed the American Racing/Keneric Racing No. A1 machine in 14th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Gridding the field from the third row in his first heat race, ‘The Mad Man’ had his elbows up as he raced his way to a second place finish before recording a third place in his second heat race of the night.
Lining up for the preliminary night feature event in the fourth row, Madsen would not get a lap completed a contact from another car sent the American Racing Custom Wheels backed entry into a series of violent flips. Though Madsen was able to climb from the wreckage uninjured, the car would be done for the weekend and the team would go to a back up machine for the Saturday night Grand Final.
With weekend points lining up Saturday heat race, the St. Marys, NSW driver would finish fifth in his first heat race and fourth in his second heat race, and would place him on the pole of the B Main event.
Winning the semi with ease, ‘The Mad Man’ would transfer into the WSS Grand Final feature event, where he gridded the field from the 15th starting position. On the racy Perth Motorplex surface, Madsen would get his machine moving forward, as he raced his way towards the Top-10.
Getting into 10th, Madsen would continue to work forward as he got by Brooke Tatnell and Shaun Bradford late to get into the seventh spot, where he would finish.
“We were hoping to have a good weekend in WA with the Keneric Group being based there, but it just did not work out for us,” Madsen added. “I really want to thank Bob Gavranich, Pete Gavranich, and everyone involved with American Racing for making these two trip to Australia possible.”
