PETERSEN MEDIA- As the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series makes it’s way toward the Midwest, a twin billing in Arizona over the weekend saw Ian Madsen finish second on Friday night and fifth on Saturday night.

“It was a really good weekend for our team considering we really have struggled in Arizona the last few years,” Ian Madsen said. “We timed in well, and raced well, and it just goes to show how strong our engine program is, and how hard the guys are working.”

Checking into USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ for the first time in several years, Madsen got going well early in the night as he timed the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 mount in second fastest in time trials.

Guiding his machine to a heat race win, Madsen moved into the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash where a second place finish put him on the front row of the feature event alongside Donny Schatz.

Getting the jump, Madsen would take command early in this one as he worked the 3/8 mile oval to perfection. Turning in a torrid pace, lap traffic would see become a factor and it would allow Brad Sweet to move in on him.

In traffic, Madsen would be forced to get on the binders and it would allow Sweet to get out in front. Going from the hunted to the hunter, Madsen would chase after Sweet but just could not get to him, as he would finish second on Friday night.

Traveling to Queen Creek, AZ on Saturday night, Madsen would continue to showcase a strong KCP Racing entry as he would again time in second fastest in time trials.

Racing his way to another heat race win, Madsen would move into the Dash where the six pill lined him up in the third row of the six-lap showdown. Finishing sixth, Madsen would roll off the starting grid from the third row for the 30-lap finale.

When the race came to life, Madsen would jump up into fifth as he staked his claim on a spot inside the Top-Five. Working in traffic a lot on this night, Madsen would continue the status quo as he ran well one night after contending for the win.

Turning in a strong performance, Madsen would close his weekend in Arizona out with a fifth place finish.

“Picking up strong finishes with these guys is huge for confidence and moral,” Madsen said. “We definitely learned a lot during our first run with the series last year, and I think that has been vital to our success thus far. Thanks to my guys, and all of our supporters for everything they do.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1  Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
