PETERSEN MEDIA- Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team put together a very strong weekend of racing, highlighted by Madsen claiming Saturday night’s Jerry Richert Memorial at the Cedar Lake Speedway in exciting fashion.
“It was a really good weekend for our team,” Madsen said. “It is always great to win, and to win like that is really special.”
Timing in third fastest, Madsen showed speed early in the night as he muscled his way to the heat race win, putting his Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply entry in the third row of the feature event.
Getting in to third spot in the early goings of the feature event, Madsen continue to work around the speedway, keeping the lead duo in his sights.
Battling with Brooke Tatnell for the second spot, Madsen would slip back to the fourth spot during their chess match, before finally railing around McCarl and Tatnell to move into the second spot, as the laps clicked away.
Reeling in race leader, Billy Balog, Madsen got to his rear bumper with the white flag in the air, and on the final lap, Madsen made his move, and was able to beat Balog back to the flag stand to earn the win in exciting fashion.
Friday night in Superior, WI at the Amsoil Speedway, Madsen would line up second in his heat race, before moving on to grab the win, putting him in the fourth row of the feature event.
Moving into sixth on the opening lap, the race’s pace got slowed as a number of stoppages negated any racing action.
When the race finally got into a flow, Madsen continued to run in the sixth spot as he chased after Craig Dollanskly and Balog.
Taking advantage of Balong’s misfortune, Madsen would take over the fifth spot, and would then move into the fourth spot with just 6 laps to go.
With four to go, Madsen would move into the third spot, where he would go on to finish.
Sunday night saw the team check in at the Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD for the 10k to win race, and Madsen opened things up by timing in sixth fastest, before finishing fourth in his heat race.
Lining up fifth in the feature event, Madsen would fall back to the sixth spot when the race went green. Getting back into the fifth spot in the closing laps, Madsen chased after Craig Dollansky, who ran in front of him.
Not able to catch Dollansky, Madsen would close his weekend out with a fifth place finish.
“Three top-five’s over a weekend is great,” he said. “We have been really fast lately, and it’s great to continue to run well, and end our year with momentum.”
