PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the King of the West Fujitsu Series on Saturday night in Tulare, CA, Mason Moore would have a good run during the Peter Murphy Classic that saw him come away with an eighth place finish.
“I was really pleased with how we ran on Saturday night,” Moore said. “We don’t get to run there very often, and we had some things we wanted to try out and they seemed to work well for us.”
With 39 cars on hand for the marquee event, Moore would time his Coors Light/Geico Local Office/Econo Lube-n-Tune& Brakes backed entry in fifth fastest during his time trial flight and lined up on the front row of his heat race.
Taking full advantage of the heat race starting spot, Moore would mash his throttle when the green flag dropped and race his way to the win, and punch his ticket into the popular ‘Pole Shuffle’.
Coming up short in his first round of the Pole Shuffle, Moore would be credited with an eighth place finish and would line up in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event.
During the USAC feature event that race in conjunction with the KWS, rubber would go down on the speedway and track officials would opt to try to make the surface racy for the feature event.
Working on the speedway during driver intro’s, the work would end up making the track pretty sticky, which never allowed the track to widen out. Following a caution on lap two, the race would click off 28-laps in rapid fire fashion.
Many assumed the surface would quickly slick up again, and with that not happening it would make it tough on drivers as wheel-stands and tank slappers were the norm with some cars being on the tight side.
Moore would turn in a fine showing in his first KWS appearance of the 2017 season as he finished eighth.
“It was kind of a bummer that the track stayed so good on Saturday night, but they had to do something with the rubber going down so all of us drivers are thankful for that,” Moore said. “Overall it was a great weekend, and I am looking forward to the next one.”
Moore would like to thank Coors Light, Econo Lube and Tune, Geico Local Office, , LRB Race Products, NAAKE Suspension, K&N, Selover Paint and Body, Lucas Oil, ITC Service Group, Saureel, and Moore Insurance Services for their support.
