PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his first trip to Knoxville Raceway to take part in the 360 and 410 Nationals with the F&F Racing team, Mason Moore will be the first to tell you he took his lumps as he went to school at the famed ½ mile.
“It’s a different beast than anything we run on in California,” Moore said. “We took our lumps, but we never backed down and I am proud of that,” Moore said.
Getting his first ever laps on the Marion County Fairgrounds facility during his qualifying night at the 360 Nationals, would finish ninth in his heat race before a 19th place finish in the semi.
Coming right back to work on Saturday night for the Championship finale, the Princeton, CA native would find the Geico/Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes/Twisted Tea machine in D main, where an 18th place finish would cap his first ever 360 Nationals.
‘The 360 Nationals weekend went quick,” Moore said. “I was really wishing I had the chance to get back there before it took place to get some laps, but I had to take that track time and get ready for the 410 portion of the week.”
Competing in the Capitani Classic on Sunday night to get more laps on the ½ mile, and make his first laps with the 410, Moore would 10th in his heat race before recording a 17th place finish in the semi.
Spending Wednesday night watching the track, and taking note on other drivers attacked the speedway, Moore was set for his qualifying night on Thursday evening.
Timing in 35th fastest amongst the 53 drivers checked in on this night, Moore would slip back to finish seventh in his heat race, before ending his night with a 17th place finish in the semi.
Friday night offered another complete night for Moore and company but mechanical troubles would end up flaring up, and it would mark the end of Moore’s first attempt at Knoxville Raceway.
“We certainly had our struggles, but it was a starting point at the biggest race in the world,” Moore said. “I have to thank the F&F Racing team and everyone who made the trip possible. I am hoping to get another shot one day, but for now I am excited to get back to familiar territory this weekend.”
