Updated: Jun 6, 2023

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his way to the Midwest for a busy month of June, Matt Mitchell got his swing kicked off over the weekend with stops at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA and Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.

“Saturday night we timed in a little late and our time buried for the feature, and with the track taking rubber we couldn’t go much,” Matt Mitchell said. “Sunday night we checked in at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN, and once we got going in the B feature, I got comfortable, and we had a nice little run to 11th in the A when the night came to an end.”

Following Fridays rained out event, Mitchell checked in at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night for a stand-alone show at the ‘Mecca of Mud’.

With 32 cars checked in for the night, Mitchell timed the Dunham Metal Processing/H&M Landing/Channel Island Floor Coverings backed No. 37 in 19th fastest in time trials.

Putting him on the front row of his heat race, Mitchell settled into second as he soon found himself chasing after CJ Leary. Finishing in second, Mitchell locked into the feature event, however going back to his qualifying effort he found himself in the ninth row of the 30-lap feature event.

On a slick surface that ended up taking rubber, Mitchell couldn’t do much from the 18th starting spot. As the field strung out, the Yorba Linda, CA driver settled in line and clicked off laps at the famed facility. When the race finally came to an end, Mitchell accepted the checkered flag in 18th.

As soon as they were loaded up, the team hit the road and heads to Haubstadt, IN to take part in an MSCS event that ran alongside the opening of Indiana Midget Week.

Making the long haul overnight, Mitchell was ready to go on an Indiana bullring, as he timed in seventh fastest in his group.

Starting and finishing seventh in his heat race, Mitchell moved into the ‘B’ where he took the green flag from the outside of the third row. Coming to life in the semi, Mitchell had his elbows up as he worked his way to a third-place finish and transferred into the ‘A’ Main.

Lining up in the 18th starting position for the second consecutive night, Mitchell was not mired back here for long as he began working his way forward.

Racing into 13th at the halfway point, Mitchell picked up a pair of spots in the race’s final stages as he capped the night off with an 11th place finish.

“I’m happy were back here, and I’m excited this trip is underway,” Mitchell added. “We have a lot of racing to do the next few weeks, and I am thankful for everyone that made the trip to help, and everyone back home who supports our racing efforts.”

Matt Mitchell would like to thank Dunham Metal Processing, H&M Landing, Channel Island Floor Coverings, Maxwell Industries, Uncle Riley, FK Rod Ends, Ebbco, P1 Australia, Factory Kahne, Simpson Race Products, Vahlco Wheels, Maxim Chassis, ARP Bolts, Faas Cores, Fight Opioids, Kaeding Performance, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Campbell Brothers Storage for their support.
