PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking to repeat his performance from a year ago during the Gold Cup Race of Champions opener, Matt Peterson was able to turn in another strong performance as he finished in the sixth spot.

“We had a really good run, but the track took rubber early and it was really tough to pass on,” Peterson said. “We were able to maintain and get out of there with a sixth place finish.”

With 50 cars on hand for the special Wednesday night show that opened up the 62nd Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, Peterson would time his V&H Fresh/Miller Lite/Inventory Sales No. p37 machine in 15th fastest after going out late on an extremely slick racing surface.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Peterson was able to get the jump and take the lead, which he would never relinquish, and pick the win. By way of his win, the Wilton, CA driver would earn a berth in the Dash where his sixth place finish would line him up in the third row of the 30-lap A Main.

The extremely slick and abrasive track would begin to take rubber in the early goings of the contest, and passing would become nearly non-existent. Being as conservative as he could, Peterson would continue to run in the rubber as he stayed in the sixth position.

Though he would lose a tire coming to the checkered flag, Peterson was able to hang on to his spot as he took the checkered flag with his 12th Top-10 finish of the season aboard the Buffalo Wild Wings/Bear Trucking/Future Energy Savers backed No. p37.

“We would have liked to get up and battle for the win, but with the way the track was it just was not possible for us,” Peterson added. “I really want to thank everyone who continues to support me, and helps us out on a weekly basis.”

Matt and his team would like to thank V&H Fresh, Miller Lite, Inventory Sales Company, Bear Trucking, Future Energy Savers, Transportation Services, The Oil Medics, Shell Shock, Vahlco Wheels, and MTFX Graphics for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS- Races-19, Wins-0, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-12

ON TAP: Peterson will head to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the annual Tribute to Al Hinds.
