(Petersen Media): Returning to action on Saturday night, Matt Peterson and his team made the trip to the Placerville Speedway to take on the California Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster during the 10th Annual Mark Forni Classic where Peterson raced his way to a sixth place finish.
“After being sick and missing out on racing last week, it was great to get back in the car and move forward,” the Wilton, CA driver said.
29 cars assembled for the $10,000-to-win event, and Peterson opened his night up by timing the V&H Fresh/Miller Lite/Inventory Sales Company backed No. p37 machine in fifth fastest during qualifying time trials.
Needing to win his heat to earn a spot in the Dash, Peterson would finish in the third spot, and would line his entry up in the fifth row for the 30-lap A main event.
A fast surface on this night still made the racing good through the field. From the fifth row, Peterson would battle with the likes of Andy Gregg, Shane Golobic, and Greg DeCaires during the course of the night.
Able to move forward, Peterson had a strong showing in front of the capacity crowd as he worked the thick cushion that had been built up around the speedway. Holding his own during a few tough double-file restarts, Peterson would earn a sixth place finish when the checkered flag flew on the Saturday night feature event.
“It wasn’t a traditional Placerville Speedway surface, but I was pleased that we were able to move forward, and race so close with some really strong cars,” Peterson said. “It seems like we have gotten a little bit better each time we race Placerville this year, and this was another positive for our team.”
