McCarl Fifth in KWS Action at Keller Auto Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA, Austin McCarl and the Country Builders Racing team put together a great night as the Altoona, IA driver recorded a fifth-place finish.

“We didn’t get timed in as well as we would have liked, but we took advantage of the format and put ourselves in a good spot for the rest of the night,” McCarl said.

Timing the Country Builders/Ochoco West Lumber/Brown and Miller backed No. 88 mount in seventh fastest in time trials, McCarl would take full advantage of his front row starting position in heat race action.

Powering his way to the heat race win, McCarl would tabulate enough points to earn a spot in the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash. Tweaking on a few things for the Dash and taking advantage of the six-lap race before the 30-lap feature, things felt good to McCarl as his third place finish put him in the second row for the 30-lap King of the West feature event.

When the race came to life, McCarl would slip back to the fifth position as he went to work on the bottom groove of the speedway. Briefly slipping back to sixth, McCarl would start to make up ground as he jumped into the fourth spot on lap 10.

Battling with the likes of Joel Myers Jr, Justin Sanders and Dominic Scelzi, McCarl would power his way into third as he would get stronger in the closing stages of the race.

With Sanders able to get back by McCarl to put him into fourth, a late move by Scelzi shuffled McCarl back to fifth where he would go on to close his night out.

“It was a good night for us, but with the way the track was we needed to do a few things different to be better on the bottom of the track,” McCarl noted. “This week we will drop the 360ci in the car and head back to Chico, CA. I am looking forward to getting another shot at the track this weekend.”
