Mechanical Gremlins Sideline Tiner During Gold Cup Opener
PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip to the Silver Dollar Speedway for the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions Wednesday night Civil War Series event, Steven Tiner would experience mechanical issues that sidelined him in the feature event.
“We were shaking out an engine for someone, and unfortunately it had some issues, and we pulled in early,” Steven Tiner said.
With 50 cars checked into the pit area, Tiner timed his Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious No. 94 machine in 14th fastest; putting him on the front row of his heat race.
Settling into the second spot in heat race action, Tiner would start to lose power as his engine stumbled, and he would lose two positions and end up in the fourth spot, but still was able to transfer into the feature event.
Lining up in the seventh row for the 30-lap A Main, the track would start to take rubber early, and passing was at an extreme premium. With things still shaky under the hood of his Harvest Supply/Powder Coat-It/SRP entry, Tiner would make just a few laps before pulling into the infield, and calling it a night.
“It was definitely a little frustrating, because we were in a good position to race into the Dash, and with the track the way it was that was key to having a good finish,” Tiner said. “We tried to liven the engine up after the heat race, but we could not quite get it right.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Elma Lanes, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-26, Wins-2, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-17
ON TAP: Tiner will return to racing on Friday night as he takes to the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA.
