PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading to the Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday night after a huge win at the Ventura Raceway a week prior, Richard Vander Weerd would endure a frustrating night, that ultimately saw mechanical woes end his night a lap early.

“Saturday night was a night that I would like to put behind me as fast as possible,” Richard Vander Weerd admitted.

Taking to the high banked Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA on Saturday night with the USAC West Coast 360’s for the Chris and Brian Faria Memorial, Vander Weerd got his night started off by timing this Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in fourth fastest.

Heat race action saw Vander Weerd involved in a tangle, and it would ultimately line him up in the fourth row for the A Main event on what was a tacky and rough Thunderbowl Raceway surface.

When the race went green, Vander Weerd carefully worked his way up to the fifth spot, as he began what would turn into an extended battle with Troy Rutherford. Trying everything he could to get the fourth spot, Vander Weerd would continue to run in the fifth position.

As the race drew to a close, Vander Weerd would make one final run at the fourth spot, until something went south under the hood of his machine, and he would come to a stop, and be credited with an 11th place finish.

“We had an okay car in the feature event, but we struggled some,” Vander Weerd added. “We did have a really good battle for the fourth spot, but unfortunately something went south, and we ended up with a DNF.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Raceway and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-15, Wins-4, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-9.

ON TAP: Richard will return to action on Saturday night as he heads to the Perris Auto Speedway in Lake Perris, CA on Saturday night.
