Mechanical Woes Slow Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- Motorsports is full of peaks and valleys during the grueling season, and unfortunately Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports find themselves in a bit of a valley after some bad luck has hindered them the last few weeks including a parts failure while leading on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.

“It is definitely a trying time for us right now, but nobody has given up by any means,” Tony Gualda said. “We have a fast racecar, and we will keep plugging away and shake this string of luck.”

Timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/Dassel’s Petroleum backed No. 7C machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials, Gualda would go onto finish fourth in his heat race and make himself eligible for the redraw.

Pulling the two-pill, Gualda would line up on the front row of the 25-lap feature event as he still chases that elusive first win at the ¼ mile bullring. Saturday night looked to be the night as Gualda simply blistered the field in the early laps.

Jumping out to an early lead, Gualda set a pace that nobody could keep up with as he quickly opened up a sizeable lead on the field and found himself in traffic in no time all.

Even a couple of bobbles on the cushion couldn’t slow him as he would throttle out and get right back on the pace.

With the race’s first caution coming on the 10th lap, the ensuing restart would see Gualda quickly gap the field but as he raced into turns three and four, the car would change pitch and he would slow to the apron and relinquish the lead as he made the left-hand turn into the infield.

Getting back to the pit area, the C&M Motorsports team would diagnose the issue as preparations for this weekend’s event in Hanford, CA are already underway.

“We were really fast in the feature and I thought it might be the night, but this luck we have been having found us in an inopportune time,” Gualda said. “Thanks to Cody, Mandi, MF, and everyone for working so hard and supporting our team week in and week out.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, Dassel’s Petroleum, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports will return to racing action on Saturday night at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-12, Wins-1, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-10.
