PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Stockton, CA, Del Morris fielded three entries in the POWRi BCRA Lucas Oil Midget Series event and when the night action came to a close Michael Faccinto stood tall as he picked up a third place finish.

“It was a good night for us,” Faccinto said. “New car and a new motor package and we had pretty good speed. Austin Liggett and Shane Golobic are really fast and to show we had speed to contend with them is really encouraging. Exciting to get back to action in this the next couple of weeks, and I have to thank the Morris Motorsports team.”

In Faccinto’s two heat races he would pick up fourth and second place finishes. Running in fourth in the opening laps of the feature event, Faccinto would eventually racy by teammate, Chase Johnson and take over the third position.

Chasing after the lead duo of Golobic and Liggett, Faccinto just could not find a way around them and capped his night with a third place finish.

Returning to Morris Motorsports after winning the series opening event at Kern County, Chase Johnson found himself aboard a TRD powered entry on this night.

Picking up a pair of third place finishes during heat race action, Johnson would find himself out front battling with Shane Golobic, Austin Liggett, and Michael Faccinto in the early stages of the race before he came to a stop on the 10th circuit.

Able to restart, Johnson would work his way back forward until he felt the left side frame rail dragging under the race’s final yellow flag. Going to the work area, the damage was too much to repair and Johnson’s night would come to close.

“We were really strong in our heat races, and in the feature I felt great,” Johnson said. “We had a good battle going, and then I felt something off under the last yellow and the rod end in the torsion had broke so it ended our night. Thanks to everyone at Morris Motorsports for the hard work.”

Piloting a third Morris Motorsports entry on Saturday night was Mark Maliepaard. A regular on pavement, Maliepaard made his return to the dirt for the first time in roughly 18 months on Saturday night.

On a slick surface in heat race action, Maliepaard would start and finish fifth in his first heat before slipping back to finish fifth again in his second heat race.

Continuing to acclimate to the dirt, conditions would change drastically for the feature event as track prep saw moisture get added to the surface making the track fast in the opening ½ of the race.

With a few dirt aces in attendance on this night, Maliepaard was happy to keep them in his sights as he ran in the fifth position for must of the race. Doing what he could to keep pace, and seemingly getting better with each lap, issues would arise on the 15th lap and it brought his night to an early end.

“Big thanks to Del Morris for the opportunity in one of his quality cars,” Maliepaard said. “It may have been a light car county, but between my two teammates alone I knew it was going to be a tough race. It was a challenge for sure, but a lot of fun.”

Morris Motorsports would like to thank Morris Insurance Agency, Homesmiles.com, Lucas Oil, Cal Crush, Walker Performance Filtration, Bruce’s Body Shop, John Meintasis Construction, and TRD for their support in 2019.
