Mid Race Contact Derails Kyle Hirst’s Charge on Saturday Night

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting off to a bit of a slow start on Saturday night in Hanford, CA, a mid-race tangle would cut Kyle Hirst’s charge through the field short as damage relegated him to an 18thplace finish at the Cotton Classic.

“We got off to a little bit of a slow start on Saturday night, but in the feature we came to life and we got to charging our way through the field,” Hirst said. “Unfortunately a car got out of shape in front of us, and I thought I cleared him but we hooked him with our right rear and it caused enough damage to end our night.”

Getting knocked out of the heat race inversion by the last car in his group to qualify, Hirst would end up fifth fastest aboard the Tiner Hirst Enterprise/Larry Davis Farms/GP Development machine, and in the third row of his heat race.

On a locked down racing surface in heat race action, KH would finish in the sixth position and would be forced into the ‘B’ main for one last chance to transfer into the ‘A’.

Battling with THE teammate, Ben Worth, Hirst would finish second in the ‘B’, and line himself up in the 22ndstarting position for the 30-lap Cotton Classic feature event.

With the track still extremely fast, and tough to pass on, Hirst was able to make it work for him as he looked to work his way through the field as he is in a tight points battle for the series crown.

Able to crack the Top-10, Hirst would get into the ninth position at the race’s halfway point.

On the 17thcircuit, a fellow competitor would get sideways in front of him and just catching some contact to his right rear corner, the damage would be too much to repair in the work area, and Hirst’s night would come to an early end.

“It’s a tough way to end our night, but I have to thank all of the guys in the THE pit for working so hard all night long,” Hirst said. “Things should be exciting at Stockton for this Championship battle, but our gameplan stays the same. We will show up and try to win the race and let things fall as they may.”

The Tiner Hirst Enterprise Racing team would like to thank Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Larry Davis Farms, GP Development, Wright Process Systems, Fisher Racing Engines, SRP, Wilwood, XYZ Machine, DMI, HRP, Sway Away, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Sway Away, Schoenfeld, Warehouse Paint, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
