PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his first sprint car start of the 2024 season on Saturday night in Marysville, CA, Ashton Torgerson had a strong night going until a mid-race tangle brought his night to an early end.
With 16 cars on hand at Marsville Raceway’s season opening event, Torgerson timed his Butlerbuilt/Walker Filtration backed No. 02 entry in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Glendale, AZ driver took advantage of the prime starting position as he rocketed out to the early lead and went on to secure the important heat race win.
With the win, Torgerson earned a berth in the nightly redraw where the six-pill put him in the third row of the 30-lap feature event.
On a very hooked up and fast racing surface, Torgerson was able to use the top groove to his liking as he raced his way into fourth in the opening stages of the race.
Continuing to battle, Torgerson began to pressure for third at the race’s halfway point but a spinning car ahead of him left him with nowhere to go and he was collected and came to a stop.
Bringing his night to an end, Torgerson was officially credited with a 10th place finish.
