PETERSEN MEDIA: Bolting a 410ci power plant into the Carrick Motorsports No. 38B machine, Blake Carrick made the trip to Hanford, CA to battle with the King of the West Series where misfortune would strike on the fifth lap and bring his night to an early end.
“We had to draw for heat races with the scoring loop not working and we ended up lining up 18th in the feature,” Blake Carrick said. “The track was super-fast and heavy, and it made passing tough. Unfortunately, cars wrecked on the fifth lap and some got hit with some debris and it ended up ending our night.”
Checking in at Keller Auto Speedway on Friday night for the Anthony Simone Classic, timing and scoring issues would force track and series officials to run a dual heat race program on this night.
Lining up sixth in his first heat race aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B machine, Carrick would hang on to finish sixth with passing at a bit of a premium. The second round of heat races would see the Lincoln, CA driver line up on the front row of his heat race before he lost the drag race entering turn one.
Settling into second, Carrick would hang to finish in the runner up position as his point total would then place him 18th on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event.
In the opening few laps, Carrick would pick up a couple of quick positions as he was took over the 14th spot. On the fifth lap, debris form another car would blow through Carrick’s rock screen and get into the cockpit.
From the impact to Blake himself as well as some damage, the incident would unfortunately bring Carrick’s night to an early end.
“It was a bummer to have our nigh end early, but luckily I’m okay and the damage to our car wasn’t too bad,” Carrick said. “Looking forward to more 410ci action this weekend in Stockton, CA.”
