Mitchell Faccinto Lands on Podium at Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- With the King of the West/NARC Series taking a late summer hiatus, Mitchell Faccinto and Tarlton Motorsports spent their weekend competing in 360ci competition as Faccinto picked up a third-place finish at the Johnny Key Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night at Ocean Speedway.

“I thought Watsonville, CA went really well for us over the weekend,” Mitchell Faccinto said. “We picked up a Top-Five on Friday and backed it up with a third-place finish on Saturday night during the Johnny Key Classic which had 41 cars checked into the pit area.”

Saturday night at the Johnny Kye Classic, Faccinto got his night started off by timing the Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales No. 21 in second fastest in his qualifying group.

Taking the green flag from the front row of his heat race, the Hanford, CA driver would not be denied a berth into the High Sierra Industries Dash as he wired the field and raced his way to the win.

Lining up fourth in the Dash after the random pill draw, Faccinto gained a position in the feature event line up by way of his third-place finish.

On a very slick racing surface, Faccinto got off to a solid start in the 35-lap Johnny Key Classic feature event as he settled into the fourth position when the race came to life.

Running very well inside the Top-Five, Faccinto ran much of the race in fourth as he chased after Justin Sanders and Shane Golobic who ran just ahead of him. As traffic came into play after a pair of restarts, Faccinto was able to surge by Sanders and take over the final spot on the podium.

Fending off Sanders in the closing laps, Faccinto capped a very strong showing at ‘The Key’ with a third-place finish.

Faccinto and company were also in action on Friday night to open the action up at Johnny Key Classic weekend.

Timing in second quickest in qualifying time trials, Faccinto’s fourth place finish in heat race competition put him in the all-important Trophy Dash.

Finishing fourth in the Dash, Faccinto had a prime starting spot for the 30-lap feature event. When the feature event came to life, Faccinto found himself in a battle for third as he jockeyed for a spot on the podium during the opening half of the feature.

Continuing to run third, a lap 21 battle saw Faccinto slip back to fifth. Running well inside the Top-Five, Faccinto would battle with Sanders for position in the waning laps, but ultimately brought his night to a close with a fifth-place finish.

“Saturday night we were going forward every time we hit the track, which is great with some big races coming up,” Faccinto said. “We have a lot of speed, and I am hoping we can keep it up moving forward. Thanks to Drew and Shane, as well as the Tarlton family and all of our great supporters.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 31, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 9, Top 10’s: 19.
