Mitchell Faccinto Nets World of Outlaws Top-10 During Gold Cup Prelim

PETERSEN MEDIA- Earning a Top-10 during his qualifying night at the Gold Cup Race of Champions in Chico, CA, Mitchell Faccinto raced his way into Saturday’s feature event before issues forced him to pull off the racing surface just 12 laps shy of the finish.

“Our Gold Cup didn’t get off to a great start with our qualifying effort and going out in the grease wasn’t ideal, but I thought we had good speed from that point on,” Mitchell Faccinto said. “We did what we needed to do to get a Top-10 on Thursday and that allowed us to race into Saturday’s ‘A’.”

Hitting Silver Dollar Speedway on Thursday night for his qualifying night at the 68th Gold Cup Race of Champions, Mitchell Faccinto lined his Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in 17th fastest in time trials after being the second car out in the session.

Making the heat race inversion with the unique Gold Cup format that was in play, Faccinto capitalized on his front row starting position as he proceeded to pick up the win and make his way into the feature event in doing so.

Lining up 14th in the feature event, Faccinto was focused on picking up as many positions he could with points being the name of the game to set the Saturday night field.

With the racetrack racy in the feature, the Hanford, CA driver was able to work his way forward and crack the Top-10. Continuing to race hard, Faccinto’s ninth place finish in the main then ultimately put him in the second row of a Saturday night heat race.

Needing to finish inside the Top-Four in the heat race to lock into the Gold Cup Race of Champions feature, Faccinto would have a very good run as he worked his way to a second-place finish. The finish would successfully put Tarlton Motorsports in the feature as Faccinto rolled off the starting grid from the 10th starting position.

Taking the green flag from the fifth row against some of the top drivers in the world, Faccinto spent the early portion of the race working around the freshly manicured bullring running inside the Top-10 .

Slipping back to 12th on lap 13, Faccinto continued to battle as he went wheel to wheel with the likes of Donny Schatz, and former Tarlton Motorsports driver, Spencer Bayston.

As the laps clicked on Faccinto would slip back a few more positions before he opted to pull into the infield on the 28thlap and bring the Tarlton Motorsports team’s Gold Cup to an end.

“I have been happy with our speed that we have had battling the Outlaws the last few weeks, and I hope we can run really well at the Tarlton Classic on Friday night in Hanford, CA,’ Faccinto said. “Thanks to the Tarlton family for their continued support, and thanks to my guys for all of their hard work.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, System 1 Ignition, Vortex Wings, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 37, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 9, Top 10’s: 21.
