PETERSEN MEDIA- With two King of the West events on the docket over this past weekend, Mitchell Faccinto and the Tarlton Motorsports team showed at during two ‘Home’ races as they finished fourth on Friday night in Tulare, CA and backed it up with a fourth-place finish on Saturday in Hanford, CA.
“I really have to give Drew Warner and the crew credit for putting a new car together for last weekend, and having it dialed in from the get-go,” Faccinto said. “Two fourth place finishes were really good for us, and if we can get our qualifying dialed in, we will be pretty tough.”
The two-day Peter Murphy Classic event came to life on Friday night in Tulare, CA where Faccinto would time the Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 machine in seventh fastest in time trials.
Taking the green flag from the second row of his heat race, the Hanford, CA native would finish in fourth which locked him directly into the opening night feature event where he took the green flag from the 13th starting position.
On a slick Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Faccinto would hustle his machine around the 1/3rd mile oval as he quickly worked his way forward. Using a great start, Faccinto would make a couple of nice moves that saw him crack the Top-10 before working into the Top-Five on the fifth lap.
As the race would be mired by stoppages, Faccinto avoided trouble and used restarts to his advantage. Moving into Third on the ninth lap, Faccinto would briefly grab second until another restart bunched the field back up.
Settling into third as the race clicked off a handful of green flag laps, a final restart saw Faccinto fall back to fourth where he ended up finishing the Friday night feature.
Making the trip to Hanford, CA on Saturday night for the $11,000-to-win finale, Faccinto opened the night us by timing in 13th fastest amongst the 31 cars packed into the Keller Auto Speedway pit area.
Putting the Tarlton Motorsports entry on the front row of his heat race, Faccinto would do all he could to improve his feature event starting position by picking up the win and earning max points for the event.
Not enough to make his way into the pole shuffle, Faccinto was safely in the feature as he took the green flag from the 10th starting position.
On an extremely slick Keller Auto Speedway surface, Faccinto picked up a few spots early in the race which proved vital as rubber would soon become a factor. Settling into sixth, Faccinto would capitalize on a miscue by the lead duo on the 22nd as he took over the fourth position.
Though he pressured DJ Netto for the final spot on the podium in the final laps, he kept his car in the rubber and secured another Top-Five by way of his fourth place finish.
“It was a great first weekend with a new car, and I think as we get the balance even better and get the early part of the night figured out, we should be competing for wins,” Faccinto said. “Again, thank you to the Tarlton’s for letting us race and putting us is position to succeed, as well as to our partners that make this possible.”
