Morris Motorsports and Chase Johnson Claim First Ever POWRi BCRA Lucas Oil Midget Series Win while E
PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip to Kern County Raceway Park on Friday night to take part in the first ever POWRi BCRA Lucas Oil Midget Series event, Morris Motorsports would grab the win with Chase Johnson while the team battled engine issues in Michael Faccinto’s entry.
With 17 cars in attendance for the revamped series’ first event of the season, Johnson would open the night up by timing the Morris Insurance Agency/Homesmiles.Com/Lucas Oil backed entry in second fastest in time trials.
Racing his way to a second place finish in heat race action, Johnson would find himself in the fourth starting position for the 25-lap feature event. When the green flag was displayed to the field, the Penngrove, CA driver would jump up into the second position and chase after early leader, Maria Cofer.
Stalking Cofer for two laps, Johnson would make his move and take command of the race on the third lap, as Cofer and Austin Liggett would give chase.
Able to keep the field at bay, Johnson would look strong up front as he went on to become the first ever POWRi BCRA Lucas Oil Midget Series feature event winner.
“I am extremely happy to start off the season like this with Morris Motorsports,” Chase Johnson said. “To be that fast at a track they have never been too, and a place I have never ran a midget shows how strong the team is. I am looking forward to our season ahead together, and can’t thank Del and Robyn Morris enough for their continued support and opportunities.”
Michael Faccinto would also be in action with the Morris Motorsports bunch, but his night would be marred by mechanical issues. Though the team would do all they could it made for a long night for the Hanford, CA driver.
Timing in 13th quickest in hot laps, Faccinto would get off to a nice start in his heat race, until the issues slowed him and eventually forced him to pull off early.
Working feverishly on his machine leading up to the “A”, the team would give it another go, but it would be a short lived race as issues returned at Faccinto retired on the ninth lap and was officially credited with a 16th place finish.
“It was a tough night as we struggled with engine gremlins that were really out of our control,” Michael Faccinto said. “but seeing the program that Del and Robyn Morris have gives me a lot of hope that we are going to have a strong season.”
Morris Motorsports would like to thank Morris Insurance Agency, Homesmiles.com, Lucas Oil, Cal Crush, Walker Performance Filtration, Bruce’s Body Shop, John Meintasis Construction, and TRD for their support in 2019.
