PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he did not tally the results he was hoping for during the final two nights of the Winter Heat Showdown, DJ Netto capped his week of racing off by making the final two feature events, making him a perfect five for five against a very strong field of cars.
“Our team had an absolute blast at the Winter Heat Showdown, and I was pleased with how we performed,” said DJ Netto. “We had some bad luck on Friday night and I made some mistakes on Saturday night but I am really confident in where we are at heading into the season ahead.”
Friday night, Netto’s draw was tough but the Hanford, CA driver did not let it phase him as he would finish seventh in his heat and fifth in his qualifier.
Lining up in the sixth spot of one of the twin B-Main events, Netto had his elbows up aboard his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogies Auto Parts No. 88n machine. Making some moves to get into the fourth spot, Netto would fend off a challenge from Henry Van Dam late as he earned the final spot in the feature event.
Starting scratch on the field, Netto would get collected in an opening lap tangle, and a collapsed front end would bring his night to an early end.
Bouncing back and checking back into the pit area for the Winter Heat Showdown finale, Netto’s draw would line his Kaeding Performance/Van De Pol Enterprises entry up in the fourth row of his heat race.
A slick racing surface would see Netto pick up several important spots, as he would race his way to a fourth place finish.
Starting and finishing fourth in his qualifier, Netto safely advanced to the Winter Heat Showdown finale based on his nightly point total as he gridded the field from the 13th spot.
Admittedly making some mistakes during the duration of the 30-lap affair, Netto would race wheel-to-wheel with some of the sports best as he finished in the 18th spot.
“We tried some things on Saturday night and the driver made some mistakes and we went the wrong direction,” Netto said. “To make each and every feature was huge for my confidence, and that is huge in this sport. I have to thank my guys for their hard work and our great partners for their support.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.
ON TAP: Netto will now take part in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals that kick off Tuesday night.
2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2
