PETERSEN MEDIA: Picking back up with the King of the West Series after an idle week, DJ Netto would score a seventh place finish as the series invaded the Stockton Dirt Track for the inaugural Jimmy Sills Classic.
“We had a pretty good night going, and were able to get into the dash but we had some problems, and ended up starting in the fourth row of the feature,” Netto said. “In the main we got to battling up front, but the rubber started going down and we ended up getting in line in the seventh spot.”
With 20 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night, the Hanford, CA driver got his night opened up by timing is Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Kaeding Performance No. 88n machine in 11th fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the former Rebel Cup Champion would race his way to the win and cement himself a spot into the nightly dash. Finding himself on the front row of the six-lap dash, Netto would see issues relegate him back to the eighth spot where he would line up for the 30-lap feature event.
A slick surface greeted teams on this night, and when the green flag dropped Netto would find himself battling with the likes of Kyle Hirst and Justin Sanders in the early goings of the race.
Hanging inside the Top-10 as the laps clicked off, rubber would soon start going down on the 3/8 mile facility. With drivers starting to find the rubber passing would slow down and the action would soon become nearly single file. Getting in line in the seventh spot, Netto would ride out the duration of the race there.
“It was a pretty good night for our race team, and again we had a really good car,” Netto said. “I am looking forward to getting to the Ocean Speedway this Friday night and hopefully defend our win from last year, and Calistoga on Saturday should be fun. My guys are continuing to work so hard, and I would love to get them in victory lane this weekend.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, Shell Rotella T6, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.
ON TAP: Netto will meet back up with the King of the West Series this Friday night at the Ocean Speedway and on Saturday night at the Calistoga Speedway.
