Netto Picks Up Pair of Runner-Up Finishes at Cotton Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to be a model of consistency aboard the Clyde and Marion Lamar No. 3c machine, DJ Netto found himself on the podium during both nights of the 31st Annual Penny Newman Grain Cotton Classic by way of his two second place finishes.

“Being that my family is involved in the Cotton Classic and it is at my home track it is a race I really wanted to win, but to run second to Rico Abreu twice is nothing to be ashamed,” DJ Netto said.

A 360ci event Friday night would open up the big weekend of racing in Kings County, and Netto would get things started by timing the Tri-C Motorsports machine in fourth fastest in time-trials.

Finishing second in heat race action, Netto would finish second in the Dash, which placed him on the front row for the 30-lap feature event.

When the action came to life, Netto would settle into the second spot as he chased after Bud Kaeding in the early goings of the feature. Using a restart to his advantage, Netto would jump into the race lead.

Laying down some strong laps, Netto would find himself in traffic, which would end up slowing his pace. With Rico Abreu all over him, Netto would guess wrong in traffic and Abreu was able to race by for the lead and eventually the win while Netto finished in the second spot.

Back in action on Saturday night with the King of the West 410’s, Netto would put himself in prime position for his heat race, as his 16th fastest lap in time trials would place him on the front row. Grabbing the win, Netto would move into the Dash where a fourth place finish placed him in the second row of the 30-lap feature event.

Getting into the second spot when the action came to life, Netto would use a restart on lap give to get by Tim Kaeding and take over the race lead before the caution flew again on the seventh lap.

In clean air Netto would set a very strong pace as he quickly opened his lead up on what was a tricky Keller Auto Speedway surface

On the 14th lap, Netto would trip over the turn two cushion and it would let Rico Abreu by again.. In the second spot, Netto would keep close tabs on Abreu until a late caution bunched the field up and gave the leaders open track. While Abreu got away, Netto was able to fend off Tim Kaeding and Cory Eliason, Netto would take the checkered flag in the second spot for the second consecutive night.

“It was an extremely tough field of cars and we were right in the mix,” Netto added. “My guys really have this car working well and it has given me a ton of confidence heading into the Trophy Cup this week, a race that I would love to run well at for Clyde and Marion Lamar.”
