Netto Picks Up Top-10 at Gold Cup Race of Champions

PETERSEN MEDIA: After a successful first weekend together, DJ Netto and his Tri-C Motorsports team continued to get during four days of action at the Gold Cup Race of Champions.

“It was a fun week getting to work with the guys again, and shed the wings one night,” Netto said. “We had some struggles, but we also figured some things out and moved forward.”

Taking on the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster on Wednesday night, Netto would time the Tri-C Machine entry in 14th fastest during his flight of time trials. Lining up seventh in his heat race, Netto had his elbows up as he carved his way forward and picked up a third place finish and made his way into the 30-lap feature event.

With the track taking a ton of rubber before the race went green, passing would be at a premium and from the ninth row that was not what Netto needed. Doing what he could in the early laps, Netto would work his way up to the 11th spot in the first nine laps of the race.

Working to get in the Top-10, Netto’s right-rear would finally give way with seven laps to go, and he would end up finishing in the 18th spot.

Going topless on Thursday night at battling with the USAC/CRA Series, Netto would time in 20th quickest before picking up a third place finish during his heat race and moving directly into the feature event.

On a heavy and fast Silver Dollar Speedway, a polar opposite from Wednesday night, Netto would work his way forward from his 16th starting spot to finish in the 13th spot.

Putting the wings back on for Friday and Saturday’s World of Outlaws program, Netto would simply struggle on during the opening night with the WoO.

Timing in 16th fastest in his flight, Netto would win the C, and work from the 12th starting spot in the B Main to finish in the sixth spot, but would miss out on a transfer spot into the feature event.

Building off of the end of their Friday night run, Netto would come out Saturday night and lay down the 12th fastest lap during time trials.

Finishing fifth in his heat race, Netto would line up in the 10th row for the 40-lap Gold Cup Race of Champions feature event.

On a track that seemingly got better with every lap, Netto was able to work his way by a lot of top drivers as he worked his way towards the Top-10. Using a couple of late restarts to his advantage, Netto would end his weekend with a 10th place finish.

“It was good to get in four nights of racing in-a-row with this new deal,” Netto said. “I think we are all understanding each other a little more now, and we are all looking forward to some big races the next few weeks. I know Clyde and Marion Lamar like to see their car up front, so we are working hard to get our first win together.”

ON TAP: Netto at the Tri-C Motorsports team will be back in action on Saturday night in Marysville, CA.
