PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of a strong showing with the World of Outlaws during the month of March and parts of April, DJ Netto had a very good night going during the KWS season opener at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night until a mid race tangle knocked him out of the top three, though the Hanford, CA driver would rebound to finish in the 10th spot.
“We had a really good car on Saturday night, and I think with the way the feature played out, we could have certainly contended for the win,” DJ Netto said. “Unfortunately we got caught up in a chain reaction accident and we spent the last part of the race fighting back into the Top-10.”
Timing his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Kaeding Performance backed No. 88n in 10th quick, the young masher would race his way to a heat race win and make him self eligible for the all important Dash.
Pocketing a third place finish in the six-lap dash, the Hanford, CA pilot would grid the field from the second row for the 30-lap feature event on the tight confines of the Placerville Speedway.
After a red negated the first attempt at a start, Netto would settle into the third spot as race got into a groove as he chased after the early race leader, Willie Croft, and second running, Bud Kaeding.
Keeping pace with the lead duo, lapped traffic came into play very quick, and Netto did his best to keep pace. On the 16th lap the car in front of Netto got on his binders hard, and with nowhere to go and brakes that were intermittent, Netto’s machine would make contact, end up coming to a stop forcing him to the back of the pack.
Restarting form the tail, Netto was able to stay poised as he fought through thick traffic and worked his way back towards the Top-10. With a couple of late yellows bunching the field back up, Netto was able to get back into the 10th spot as the checkered flag flew.
“It wasn’t where we wanted to finish, but it was a really good start to the KWS season for us,” Netto said. “I don’t know what it is about Placerville but I don’t seem to have any luck there. I have to thank my guys for their hard work, and hopefully we can show the same speed at Chico this weekend we showed last time out.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, Shell Rotella T6, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.
