PETERSEN MEDIA: Winning his first KWS feature event of his career just a few weeks back, DJ Netto wasted little time making a return trip to victory lane with the series, as he picked up his second KWS win on Friday night in dramatic fashion.
“It was an awesome night, and it is kind of surreal to win a race in that fashion,” DJ Netto explained.
With 23 cars on hand Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Netto would just narrowly miss the heat race inversion as he timed his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogies Auto Pars No. 88n machine in 13th fastest.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Hanford, CA wheelman would work from his fifth starting spot to finish in the third spot and safely transfer into the night’s feature even, where he gridded the field from the seventh row.
On the very well prepared ¼ mile, Netto was patient as he worked his way forward, and was able to take advantage of a few double file restarts. As he worked towards the top-five, he took advantage of a restart on the 25th lap, as he would surge into the second spot, and set his sights on race leader, Tyler Walker.
Slowly cutting into Walker’s lead, Netto would make up ground in a big way after taking the white flag. In what was his fastest lap of the race, Netto would come from several car lengths getting into turns three and four and executed a text book slide job, and then beat Walker back to the stripe to claim the victory in front of a jubilant crowd.
“I could see that I was catching him running that line I was running, and I actually didn’t think I was close enough to pull off the pass, but I went for it, and it worked,” Netto added.
Taking the momentum from his win to the Calistoga Speedway on Saturday night, Netto would open his night up by timing in fourth fastest before finishing third in his heat race.
A seventh place finish in the dash, would see Netto line the King Racing Products/Vande Pol Enterprises backed entry up in the fourth row for the feature event. Having some issues under the hood in the feature event, Netto admitted it did not allow him to start and restart well, but he was able to stay the course, and pick up a fifth place finish.
“We have had some horrible luck this year, but it was awesome to have a weekend like we just had,” Netto said. “We were fast both nights, and to get a win and a fifth place finish is huge for us. I really want to thank everyone that has continued to support us.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Bogies Auto Parts, King Racing Products, and Vande Pol Enterprises for their support in 2015.
ON TAP: Netto will enjoy the 4th of July Holiday before returning to the Ocean Speedway July 10th and 11th for two more nights of action.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-28, Wins-3, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-9
