PETERSEN MEDIA: Though his end result wasn’t what he had hoped after getting collected in a wreck near the race’s halfway point, DJ Netto was pleased with how things felt during a night where his team brought out a new car.
“I was really pleased with how the new car felt, and really have to thank Brian Matherly, Matt Britt, and Gary for putting together a really strong car,” Netto said. “I was happy with how everything went, and how it handled.”
Taking to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, the nearby Hanford, CA native would time his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Kaeding Performance No. 88n machine in 10th fastest during his qualifying flight.
Starting and finishing fifth in his heat race, Netto would put the Shell Rotella T6/Van De Pol Enterprises No. 88n machine in the 35-Lap A Main event where he gridded the field from the 19th starting position.
On a track that did not make for much passing, Netto was able to slowly grab a few positions as made some strong laps racing on the wicked fast racing surface. Able to avoid a couple of early wrecks on the speedway, Netto would not be so lucky on a lap 15 restart.
With cars wrecking in front of him coming out of turn four, Netto had nowhere to go and came to a stop in the middle of the mayhem with very minor damage to his machine.
The Hanford, CA driver would be able to restart but would find himself again in the back of the pack. With no major charges through the field happening on this night, Netto would be able to pick a couple of spots back up as he finished in the 14th spot.
“The way the track was, there wasn’t going to be a ton of passing and you had to be smart and hope for some mistakes,” Netto added. “Unfortunately we got caught up in someone’s mistake and had to go to the back. I was pleased with how things went overall, and I am hoping we can put together a good showing in Stockton, CA this weekend.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, Shell Rotella T6, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.
ON TAP: DJ and his Netto Racing team will follow the World of Outlaws to the Stockton Dirt Track this Friday and Saturday night.
