Not The Finish Vander Weerd Was Looking For

PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard his winged No. 88v entry on Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway, Jace Vander Weerd did not quite have the run he was looking for after finishing on the podium during his previous winged start in August.

“We had a good car, but I just need to be more consistent and not make so many mistakes,” Jace Vander Weerd said.

After timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx backed No. 88v machine in fifth fastest, Vander Weerd would have issues during his heat race and make a stop in the B Main.

Putting together some great laps during the semi, the Visalia, CA driver would finish in the second position, and make his way into the 30-lap A Main event. Getting his qualifying time back for the A, Vander Weerd would grid the field from the fifth row.

When the green flag dropped Vander Weerd got off to a nice start has he worked his way up into the eighth spot before the yellow flag flew on the seventh lap. The ensuing double file restart would see Vander Weerd get tight going into turn one on the surface that was coming back lap-by-lap.

Getting up off the racing surface, Vander Weerd would lose a few spots, and fall outside of the Top-10. Able to pick up a few of the positions he lost as the laps clicked off, Vander Weerd would fight to get back in the Top-10.

In the closing laps, a half spun car would force JVW to take evasive action, and it would result in him slipping back to finish in the 19th spot.

“I really think we had a Top-10 car, and I hate it for my team that we fell back so far,” Vander Weerd said. “I am having a blast running the winged car, and am looking forward to getting back in it on October 9th.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-32, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-19.

ON TAP: Jace will take this weekend off before retruning to the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday October 3rd with the USAC West Coast 360 Series.
