PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting to Cottage Grove Speedway over the Memorial Day Weekend for the Marvin Smith Memorial, Seth Nunes would pocket a Top-10 during Saturday’s opening night before mechanical issues derailed his efforts during Sunday night’s 41-lap finale.

“We really ran well in both feature events,’ Seth Nunes said. “Sunday night we were having a really good run but some late bad luck knocked us out of third with 11 to go or so.”

After a tough time trial effort on Saturday, Nunes would like the Napa Auto Parts/Lucas Oil Products/Rodgers Racing Engines backed No.5n machine up in the second row of his heat race. Picking up a second place finish, Nunes would move into the opening night feature where he gridded the field from the 13th starting position.

On the always racy ¼ mile bullring, Nunes was able to make up some ground as he quickly jumped into the Top-10. Continuing to work his way forward, the Medford, OR driver closed his night out with a nice run to seventh place.

Coming back on Sunday night for the Marvin Smith Memorial finale, Nunes would again get off to a bit of a tough start in time trials as he would line his entry up in the second row of his heat race.

Storming to the win, Nunes would take the direct transfer into the 41-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 15th starting position.

Continuing to show the speed he showed in his heat race, Nunes would lay down some great laps in the feature event as he clawed his way to the front. Breaking into the Top-10, Nunes would continue to go forward as he got into the Top-5 in the closing stages of the race.

Working into third on the 30th lap, Nunes would experience issues to his rear-end issues and it would bring his night to a disappointing end.

“We had a really fast car on Sunday night, and it is a bummer it ended how it did,” Nunes added. “I have to thank everyone that helps our race team out in one way or another.”

Seth would like to thank Napa Auto Parts, Lucas Oil Products, Cook Crane Corp., Awesome Racewear, Rodgers Racing Engines, and Central Point Electric for their support.

ON TAP: Seth will take this weekend off before returning to Cottage Grove Speedway on June 9th.
