PETERSEN MEDIA- The Ocean Speedway seems to have Jonathan Allard’s number. For the second consecutive King of the West race at the track, Allard was involved in a violent wreck while contending for the race lead.
“We have been extremely fast at the Ocean Speedway this year, but unfortunately the only thing we have to show for it is a bent up racecar,” Allard said.
After spending all week rebuilding the car that was hurt during the last visit to the Speedway, Allard and Kyle Hirst made contact while battling for the lead on the 21st lap that saw Allard flip violently down the front stretch.
After timing the Clyde and Marion Lamar owned No. 3c machine in third fastest, Allard would finish second in his heat race before picking up the Dash win, and earning the right to start from the pole for the Howard Kaeding Classic.
The first 17-laps were ripped off at an extremely fast pace as pre-race track prep brought a ton of speed back to the surface. A couple of restarts would see Allard hang with Hirst, but on a lap 21 restart, Allard was able to work by the race leader.
Countering a slide job attempt in turn four, Allard was able to turn under Kyle Hirst and as the leaders raced down the front stretch, contact would ensue resulting in a wicked crash in front of the capacity crowd that would end Allard’s night.
“We raced extremely hard with Kyle Hirst and with the track starting to blow off, it was like his car got out of shape a bit and came into contact with our front tire, and the rest is history,” Allard said. “I hate it for my guys and this team as they worked hard to get this car back together for this race.”
Friday night, Allard and company were in action with the Civil War Series. After fighting gremlins under the hood early in the night, Allard was able to pick up a seventh place finish on a relatively narrow and rough surface.
“It had the makings to be a very good weekend for our team, but that changed in the blink of an eye,” Allard said. “We have been very good over the last three weeks, and I believe we will come back strong this weekend.”
Allard would like to thank Tri-C Manufacturing, K&N, ButlerBuilt, Amerikote, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Red Line Oil, KSE Racing Products, Weld Wheels, NGK Spark Plugs, FK Rod Ends, Hunt Magnetos, Longacre Products, RCM Design, Ti64, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, AL Driveline, and Hoosier Tire for their support.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-40, Wins-8, Top 5’s-19, Top 10’s-25.
ON TAP: Allard and his Tri-C Motorsports team will possibly be in action on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway before returning to Placerville on Saturday night with the King of the West Series.
