Offill Continues to Log Laps in Midwest

PETERSEN MEDIA: As the Midwest continues to return to racing a little faster than California, Kyle Offill and Country Builders Racing continue to log laps in the Midwest as the Tracy, CA native took part in the West Texas Crude Nationals on Tuesday, and the Great Lakes Shootout on Friday night.

“We had another action-packed weekend in the Midwest, and I really have to thank all of my guys for all of their hard work during a really busy two-night swing,” Kyle Offill said.

Checking in at West Texas Raceway on Tuesday night for the West Texas Crude Nationals opener, Offill would time the Country Builders/Ochoco West/Brown and Miller backed No. 88 entry in second fastest in his group as well as second fastest overall amongst the star-studded field.

Transferring through his heat race, Offill’s qualifying efforts earned him a spot in one of the twin 4-lap dashes, but the five pill would put him starting shotgun on the field. With not much time to make up ground, Offill’s fifth place finish put him 10th on the starting grid for the feature event.

On the slick surface early in the feature event, Offill worked aboard a very sporty machine as he battled with fellow California drivers Dominic Scelzi, and Shane Golobic. As the race moved along, the track would start to take rubber, and it would result in Offill using his tires up.

As his tires went away, Offill would slowly fade in the closing laps as he capped his night with a 15th place finish. Looking to keep the speed at West Texas Raceway on Wednesday night, Mother Nature had other plans as the finale would succumb to rain.

Staying in the Midwest, Offill and crew would make the trip to Jackson, MN and take part in the Great Lakes Shootout at Jackson Motorplex. With rain also cancelling the Shootout’s finale, this event would too turn into a single day show.

Making his first appearance at Jackson Motorplex, Offill would have issues in hot laps and his team would be forced to thrash before time trials and go to a backup engine.

Just able to make the call for time trials, Offill would find himself 22nd on the speed chart and in a bit of a hole in his heat race early in the night. Starting at the tail end of a loaded heat race, Offill’s ninth place finish put him one of the twin ‘B’ mains as he looked to race his way into the feature event.

Lining up 16th in his semi, Offill would continue to acclimate to the Jackson Motorplex as he would work his way towards the Top-10 as he capped his night and his week out with a 12th place finish in the semi.

“I really felt like we had a good car all week long,” Offill said. “Friday night in time trails our engine was a little cold after the swap and it stumbled a bit and cost some valuable time and really put us in a tough spot. We are sticking around out here for a little bit, and we are all excited to race in the Midwest a little more.”

Kyle Offill would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West, Brown and Miller, Maas Bros., Reliable Lumber, Boise Cascade, Offill Family Farms, Weld Wheels, HRP, FK Shocks, Arai America Helmets, Hinchman Racewear, Maxim Chassis, and B. Scadden Design for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 4, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 1, Top 10’s: 2

ON TAP: Offill will spend Memorial Day Weekend racing at Lake Ozark’s Speedway.
