Opening Lap Contact Ends Andy Gregg’s Night at Stockton Dirt Track

PETERSEN MEDIA: While thinking his season was over a couple months back, Andy Gregg was able to sneak one final race in on Saturday night as the Stockton Dirt Track was able to open up over the weekend and he climbed aboard the Brown-Eagle Race No. 01 machine.

“I want to thank the entire Brown-Eagle Racing team for the opportunity to sneak another night of racing in,” Andy Gregg said. “Unfortunately, a rough track led to contact on the opening lap of the feature and the damage was too much for us to fix in the work area.”

A total of 48 winged 360’s checked in at Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night for the 37th Annual Tribute to Gary Patterson, and Gregg got his night started off by timing in sixth fastest in his qualifying group.

Making a couple of really nice moves in his heat race on a very locked down and rough surface, Gregg was able to work into a transfer position as his third-place finish moved him directly into the 25-lap Tribute to GP feature event.

As the night moved along with other preliminary events as well as the 410ci program, the racetrack stayed fast and rough making things tricky on drivers and crews as they prepared their cars for the feature.

Taking the green flag from the 14th starting position, Gregg would look to capitalize on an opening in front of him as a fellow competitor hooked a rut. As Gregg shot the gap, the other driver shot back down the track and make contact with the rear end to Gregg’s entry.

Causing extensive damage to the rear end of the Brown-Eagle racing entry, Gregg’s night would unfortunately come to a close.

“It was definitely a bummer to have our night end like that, but it was just a product of a rough and tumble surface,” Gregg said. “With passing tough, you had to take advantage of opportunities unfortunately the gap I had closed quick and resulted in some damage.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, LAL Motorsports, Crane Inspection Agency, Meyers and Son Drywall, Sierra Ice, CTL Forest Management, Nail It Roofing, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2020.

ON TAP: Gregg’s 2020 season has come to a close.
