Opening Lap Incident Hampers Justyn Cox at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Picking up the last two regular season openers at Placerville Speedway, Justyn Cox looked to repeat the feat on Saturday night, however an opening lap incident would essentially hinder Cox’s night.

“After last week, we really had a lot of confidence heading into Saturday night,” Cox said. “Unfortunately, a car spun on the start and started an accordion effect and we got a piece of the action that really damaged our car.”

Going out early for time trials on Saturday night, Cox would time the Berco Redwood/Barry Lumber/Lund Construction backed No. 7c in 20th fastest in time trials as the surface would seemingly get faster with each car that went out.

Putting together a very nice heat race, the Clarksburg, CA driver would work into the fourth and final transfer position and move directly into the 25-lap feature event.

With his qualifying time, Cox would find himself taking the green flag from the 17th starting position. When the race went green, a car would lose the hand in front of him. Trying to avoid the action, Cox would get into the infield berm and it would result in him spinning around and bringing his machine to a stop.

While he was able ot restart the race, the impact caused damage to the frame and would change the handling on the entry, making it tough to hang on to.

Restarting from the tail end of the field, Cox would do all he could to get going forward. Working the cushion, Cox would slowly work his way forward, though things would grow increasingly difficult from the driver’s seat.

Working his way back up to 12th, Cox would get over the cushion on the 12th lap and bring out the caution and it would bring an end to his night.

“The car wasn’t too happy after that opening lap incident and I hung on as long as I could,” Cox said. “It has been a pretty tough start to the year for us, but we have a lot of speed and now we just need some breaks to go our way. Thanks to Cody, Mandi, and everyone who supports this deal.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Legacy Specialties, Inc. PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
