PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Micro action over the weekend after making his first winged sprint car start, Austin Torgerson had a solid weekend in Lemoore, CA as he picked up a pair of Top-5’s at the Jet Bowl Classic.
Competing in both winged and non winged action over the weekend, Torgerson got his weekend underway on Friday night as he timed his non winged entry in fastest during qualifications.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, the Arizona driver slipped back and finished sixth which relegated him to the night’s ‘B’ Main. Rolling off of the starting grid from fourth, Torgerson kept his mount inside of a transfer spot as his third place finish moved him into the feature.
When the race came to life, Torgerson had a very good car as he quickly began working his way forward. Getting into 10th in just give laps, Torgerson needed another nine laps to crack the Top-Five as he raced into fifth on the 14th marker.
Inside the Top-Five, Torgerson continued to race his way forward as he raced into third on the 19th lap before he ran into trouble with contact from another car bringing his night to an end.
Friday night’s winged action also got off to a good start for Torgerson as he timed his Safety Kleen backed entry in sixth fastest in time trials.
Running third in his heat race, Torgerson transferred into the 30-lap opening night feature event as he took the green from the fourth starting position.
After slipping back to seventh in the early goings of the race, Torgerson worked his way back into fifth on the fourth lap and settled in. With passing difficult during the final race of the night, Torgerson hit his marks and brought his winged entry home with a fifth-place finish.
Back in action on Saturday night, non-winged action got underway with Torgerson timing in third quickest before finishing third in his heat race. Qualifying for the pole shuffle, Torgerson ended up sixth which placed him in the third row of the feature.
Settling into sixth, Torgerson spent much of the race there as passing in the ‘A’ was at a premium. Moving into third on a late restart, Torgerson took over second on the 27th lap, and went on to close the night out with a runner up finish.
Winged action on Saturday night started off with Torgerson timing his Torgerson Racing No. 88 in ninth quickest before picking up a win in his heat race .
Transferring into the 30-lap Jet Bowl Classic feature event, Torgerson rolled off the starting grid from the 12th starting spot.
Mired back in 12th for much of the race, Torgerson was unable to mount a charge through the field. Getting into 11th, he chased after a berth inside of the Top-10, and briefly took over 10th just after the race’s halfway point.
After getting into 10th, Torgerson was then shuffled back to 12th before racing into 11th, where he went on to finish.
