PETERSEN MEDIA- Seizing an opportunity to team up with Bernie and Betsy Stuebgen for the Knoxville Nationals, Parker Price-Miller had his best ever showing at the ‘Grand Daddy of Them All’ as he qualified for his first feature event and finished 18th.
“To make my first Nationals after the week I had was pretty satisfying,” Parker Price-Miller said. “Getting fired a week before the biggest race of the year I had those thoughts running through my head ‘Am I wasting my time?’, ‘What does my future hold?’, ‘Am I not cut out for this?, then I was lucky things came together like they did and am really thankful for everything Bernie and Betsy did for me.”
Making his debut in the Indy Race Parts No. 71P entry last Sunday night at the Capitani Classic, PPM and Stuebgen used the night to feel each other out and get acclimated for the big pictures. Finishing 15th in the ‘A’, PPM felt confident they accomplished some goals and looked forward to his Thursday night prelim.
Going out late in time trials, the Kokomo, IN driver laid down quite the lap as he would end up fifth fastest in time trials and was in a great position to open the 58th Annual Knoxville Nationals.
From his fourth row starting position in his heat race, PPM made some extremely nice moves that actually saw him get as high as third. Admittedly making a couple of mistakes PPM would lose the transfer position late, which would change the outlook of his week drastically.
“If I don’t make those mistakes in our heat, we are solidly in the feature event and potentially in a really good starting spot on Saturday night so that was a bit of a bummer,” he noted.
Racing his way into the feature event from the semi, PPM would grid the field from the 22nd starting position as he was focused on moving forward and gaining as many points as he could for Saturday night’s finale.
From the back of the pack, Price-Miller would do just that as he raced his way forward and towards the Top-10. Stalling out at 14th, PPM would find himself 17th in the overall Knoxville Nationals points and on the pole of the ‘B’ Main event.
From his 21st starting position, Price-Miller had his work cut out for himself against the best drivers in the world. Working his way up as high as 15th during the 50-lap Knoxville Nationals finale, PPM would close his weekend out with an 18th place finish.
“We had a great racecar each time we hit the track,” Price-Miller said. “Starting that far back on Saturday night against the caliber of drivers that are there it is really tough to make up ground. I am just extremely thankful I had an opportunity to race the Nationals and to make the show for the first time is great. I have to thank everyone that made this all possible. It took a ton of work and I am very appreciative.”
