PETERSEN MEDIA: Bouncing back from a tough night at the track on Friday night, Joel Myers Jr had a great run during Saturday’s Fall Nationals finale as he charged from 24th to 10th, only to have a part failure cause him to lose power three laps from the finish.
“Friday night things really didn’t go our way,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We were in the ‘B’, I felt pretty good, but I clipped a rut and spun while leading, and then got smoked by another car to add insult to injury. Luckily, we worked all day Saturday to get things put back together, and then we had a mechanical issue while running in the Top-10 late in the feature.”
With 62 cars on hand Saturday night, Myers Jr timed the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46JR in ninth fastest in his qualifying group.
Lining up ninth in his heat race, Myers Jr’s seventh place finish put him in the ‘B’ where he lined up seventh in the 12-lapper with only four transfer positions up for grabs.
Using an early restart to get into fourth, Myers Jr held on to the fourth and final transfer position when the checkered flag was displayed as he was locked into the 24th starting position for the 40-lap feature event.
With a couple of cars having issues on the start of the race, Myers Jr was up to 21st before a lap was completed. Working his way forward, Myers used a restart to propel himself up to 18th, as his march forward was on.
Getting into 13th by the 13th lap, Myers continued to work around the ¼ mile as the track conditions changed with each lap following a pre-race rework. Up into 10th with just 10-laps left in the race, Myers Jr started to endure some mechanical woes as he started to lose power. As the situation worsened, he was forced to exit the racing surface on the 37th lap, which brought his night to an end.
“I want to thank Ivan Worden for coming out with us this weekend, as well as Tanner, Nate, and my Dad for working so hard,” Joel Myers Jr said. “The results were not what we wanted, but the car and motor felt good, and hopefully it is something to build off of for Trophy Cup.”
