PETERSEN MEDIA: With rain in Kansas forcing the cancelation of the scheduled USAC National Sprint Car Series events, the KO Motorsports team opted to roll their winged car out and take part in the final two legs of the All Star Circuit of Champions Indiana Invasion presented by the Rayce Rudeen Foundation at Gas City Speedway and Kokomo Speedway.
“We missed the inversion in our heat race on Saturday night, but I felt like we still had a good pace,” Paul Nienhiser said. “We made some adjustments for our heat, but the track lost grip and we were pretty bad.”
Checking in at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, IN on Saturday night, the Chapin, IL driver would time the CAM2 Blue Bloods Racing Oil/Roadworks/Hutson John Deere backed No. 5k entry in sixth fastest in his group, which placed him sixth on the grid for his heat race.
Struggling on the slick surface in heat race action, the Chapin, IL driver would slip back a couple of positions and his eighth-place finish forced him into the night’s B Main event.
Lining up ninth in the semi, Nienhiser continue to fight the same issues he fought in the heat as he struggled to make grip. When the semi came to an end, so did Nienhiser’s night as he would finish ninth.
Sunday night the scene shifted to Kokomo Speedway for the Rayce Rudeen Foundation race, and Nienhiser would get off to a much better start.
Timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, Nienhiser would find himself on the front row of his heat race. Looking to lock into the Dash, as well as into the $26,000.00 to win feature event, Nienhiser would go to work on the highside of the speedway.
Pushing it as hard as he could, Nienhiser would get the job done and pick up the win. Heading into the Dash, Nienhiser would pull the two pill, but he would struggle to make speed as he slipped back to finish fifth.
Going to work on his machine prior to the feature, Nienhiser would take the green flag from the 10th starting position. With their changes not quite helping how they thought they would, Nienhiser would find himself mid pack of the feature event, before pulling off to stay out of the way of the leaders who had a torrid battle going on.
“It was fun to get in some winged racing, and I have to thank the guys for always working hard for me,” Nienhiser said. “We have a quick turnaround this week as we get back to USAC racing at Terre Haute on Wednesday night and possible a trio of shows this weekend.”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Roadworks, Peterbilt, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
2021 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-18, Wins-1, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-7
ON TAP: Nienhiser will meet up with USAC Wednesday night at Terra Haute Action Track, before running Jacksonville Speedway on Friday night in his own No. 9x entry, possibly a return to Indiana on Saturday night at Lincoln Park Speedway on Saturday night, before returning to the seat of Scott Bonar’s No. 50 machine on Sunday night at 34-Raceway.
