Petaluma Top-10 for Joel Myers Jr

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making a rare appearance at his home track, Petaluma Speedway, on Saturday night, Joel Myers Jr raced his way to an eighth-place finish as he and the Vertullo Motorsports team are now set for their first Northwest trip of the 2022 season.

“Saturday was a decent night for our team especially coming off a weekend where he had two DNF’s,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We put ourselves in a pretty good spot in qualifying but getting called for a jump in our heat race kind of dictate our feature event with how the track raced.”

Timing the Starr Property Management/Hi-Plains Building Division/PitStopUSA backed No. 83V mount in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Sebastopol, CA youngster lined up on the front row of his heat race.

When heat race action came to life, officials deemed that Myers Jr was on the throttle to early and he would be penalized and would then start in the second row. On a narrow track, Myers would settle into fourth as his fourth-place finish placed him in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event.

Slipping back to 12th as the race came to life, track conditions would still make passing tough in the feature just as it was in heat race action.

Taking what he could get, ‘Jr’ cracked the Top-10 on the 11th lap as car tangled in front of him, and then the ensuing restart saw him grab another position as he moved into ninth.

Working into eighth at the race’s halfway point, he would settle into his position in the Top-10 as he chased after the likes of Shane Golobic and Bud Kaeding.

Trying to better his finishing spot on a few occasions, Myers Jr would not be able to as he capped Saturday’s feature event off with an eighth-place finish.

“Huge thanks to everyone that helps our team out, and worked so hard on Saturday night,’ Myers Jr said. “I also want to thank everyone for all their help prepping for this trip and I can’t wait to hit the track in Medford, OR on Thursday.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 20, Wins-0, Top-5’s- 5, Top-10’s-7
