PETERSEN MEDIA- As the season quickly comes to a close, Matt Peterson continues to stay hot, and on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Peterson picked up his second consecutive podium finish with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster by way of his third place effort on Saturday night.

“It was a little disappointing to slip back to third after leading some laps, but looking back and seeing how much we have progressed over the last couple of months, it is great to continually be in contention,” Matt Peterson said.

Kicking his night off by timing his V&H Fresh/Miller Lite/Inventory Sales Company No. p37 entry in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials, Peterson would then finish fourth in heat race action, giving himself a spot in the dash.

Lining up in the second row of the dash, Peterson would finish in the third spot, to give himself a second row starting spot in the 30 lap feature event on what was a lightening fast surface.

When the race finally got underway, Peterson would overtake Willie Croft for the second spot on the fourth lap, as he chased after Colby Copeland, as cautions on lap seven and 11 slowed the pace.

The lap 11 restart was a good one for Peterson as he was able to beat Copeland into turn one, and grab the race lead, just before the caution again flew on the 12th lap.

In what would be the final restart of the night, Peterson would jump back out to the lead, as he took a liking to the bottom of the speedway, but he soon felt pressure from Copeland and Croft. On the 15th lap, Copeland slipped by Peterson, and a lap later, Croft was able to do the same thing, putting Peterson back in the third spot.

With the bottom groove getting increasingly rough by the lap, Peterson moved up on the speedway, as he chased after Croft, all while trying to fend off Civil War point leader, Shane Golobic.

Hitting his marks over the final laps, Peterson would cap his night off by bringing home a third place finish, marking his second consecutive podium with the series.

“I just stayed on the bottom to long, and then I made some mistakes after I got passed,” he added. “Once I settled back down we were fine, and were able to pick up a third place finish. I can’t thank this team enough, and all of our great supporters.”

Matt and his team would like to thank V&H Fresh, Miller Lite, Inventory Sales Company, Bear Trucking, Future Energy Savers, Transportation Services, The Oil Medics, Shell Shock, and MTFX Graphics for their support in 2014.

ON TAP: Peterson and his team will be in action this Friday and Saturday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the Fall Nationals.
