PETERSEN MEDIA- A week removed from an issue in Stockton, CA, Matt Peterson returned to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night and ran a very patient race that saw him come away with a second place finish.
“It is a great feeling to be back up front, and in a battle with the leaders,” Matt Peterson said. “Last season and the start of this season has been extremely rough on me, but I have a great group of people behind me that continue to motivate me and this just feels good.”
28 cars assembled at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night and the Wilton, CA product got things underway by timing the Miller Lite/Inventory Sales Company/Bear Trucking backed sprinter in 13th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Gridding the field from the pole for heat race competition, Peterson would get out to the early lead on the slick Placerville Speedway surface. Keeping the field at bay, Peterson would tally the win, which would boost him into the top-eight redraw for the feature event.
Pulling the five pill, Peterson would put his Transportation Services/Future Energy Savers/Hoskins Mechanical Resources entry in the third row for the 25-lap ‘A’ Main event. With the bottom the preferred groove early in the race, Peterson would find himself in the fourth spot as the field shuffled out in the early goings of the feature.
Chasing after Andy Forsberg who ran ahead of him in the third spot, Peterson would get an opening on the 15th lap and would take over the third spot on the 16th circuit just before the yellow flag flew.
Lining up on the rear bumper of Greg DeCaires when the action resumed, Peterson would fall back to fourth as Forsberg moved to the top and made some moves.
With Forsberg ultimately bringing out the caution on the 19th lap, Peterson would again chase after DeCaires in the final six-lap shoot out to the finish. Getting by the veteran on the white flag lap, Peterson would finish second at the stripe.
“It was big for me personally to battle with DeCaires and Forsberg and have success,” Peterson said. “Again, I really have to thank everyone who is behind me, and my family for all their continued hard work.”
