Pittman and Roth Motorsports Land on Knoxville Nationals Podium

HG7A5690

PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of the Front Row Challenge win, Daryn Pittman and the Roth Motorsports team were eager for the Knoxville Nationals after their success at the raceway earlier this year. When it was all said and done, Pittman found himself on the podium as he picked up a third place finish on sprint car racing’s biggest stage.

“It’s bittersweet,” Pittman said. “It’s the best I have ever felt at the Nationals which is great, I just wish I could have a couple of those mistakes I made back. All in all, great to be on the podium at the Nationals, and I’m thankful for Dennis and Teresa Roth as well as this Roth Motorsports team for all they continue to do.”

Following a 10thplace run in Thursday’s qualifying night at the Nationals, Pittman found himself 10thin overall points and locked into Saturday’s 50-lap feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the 10thposition aboard the Roth Enterprises/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co./HR Livestock Transportation machine.

After long couple days of waiting, Pittman would showcase a very strong Roth Motorsports entry once the Nationals feature came to life. Working his way forward in the race’s opening 25-laps, the Owasso, OK driver made some swift moves to get up in the third position when the halfway red flag flew allowing cars to make changes during an open red period.

When the race came back to life, Pittman would driver into the second position as he gave chase to race leader, David Gravel. With Gravel pacing the field, Pittman was glued to the cushion and cutting into his lead as they reached the back of the pack.

Closing in on Gravel and putting himself in position to battle for the lead, a bobble in turns three and four would allow Gravel to keep his momentum and gap Pittman.

Continuing to run in second as the laps wound down, Pittman would let it all hang out as he looked to make one final bid for the lead in the final laps. Battling through traffic, Gravel would keep his distance, but Pittman would be under fire for the second position.

With a slower car getting out of shape in front of DP on the race’s final lap, he would check up enough to give up second, but still close his Nationals out with a third place finish.

“I was a little bummed a car made a mistake there on the last lap and it cost us second,” Pittman said. “I’m really proud of this Roth Motorsports team and all of the effort we have put into Knoxville all season long. I’m happy with the podium, but at the same time a little disappointed because I feel like this is the best chance I have had to win this thing. Again, thanks to all of my guys and the Roth Family for putting us in this position.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co., HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium, Wicked Cushion, and Team Simpson for their support in 2019.
