PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in the 360 portion of the 66thAnnual Gold Cup Race of Champions that was billed ‘The Platinum Cup’, Andy Gregg and the BrownEagle Racing team didn’t quite have the two nights they had in mind.

“We had been pretty good at Silver Dollar Speedway during our first two starts together, so we were hoping to keep that going last week, but was just kind of an average couple of nights instead.”

Timing in 11thquickest in his qualifying group, Andy Gregg would charge from his third row heat race starting position to pick up a third place finish and transfer into the 30-lap feature event.

Lining up ninth in the feature, Gregg would quickly jump to seventh, as he appeared to have a very good car underneath him. Working around the immaculate racing surface, Gregg would run into trouble on the seventh lap and it would bring his  night to an early end.

Thursday night, Gregg and the team returned to the Speedway for their final night of racing for the week. Timing in seventh fastest in time trials on the very slick racing surface, Gregg’s sixth place finish in his heat forced him into the ‘B’.

Lining up sixth in the ‘B’, Gregg would have to work extremely hard to make headway with passing tough. Able to steal the final transfer position, the Diamond Springs, CA driver would line up 24thon the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event.

Getting a couple of positions early, Gregg would soon have to settle into the rubber as it went down quickly. Picking up a couple of free spots over the course of the race, he would end the night, and the week, with a 16thplace finish.

“I missed the set up and it really hurt us,” Gregg said. “It was a tough surface to put yourself behind on, but we still had fun, and I am still appreciative of the opportunity.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Capitol ACE Hardware, Crane Inspection Agency, Sierra Ice, CTL Forest Management, Nail It Roofing, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2019.
